Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The

Larsson, Stieg

  9 Reviews

A Swedish novel featuring crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist investigating a decades old disappearance of a child. He is helped by researcher Lisbeth Salander, a genius computer hacker, non-conformist, socially challenged individual and the girl with the dragon tattoo. The investigation and Mikael's simultaneous attempts to expose a corrupt industrialist become interwoven. This examination of individual and corporate corruption and disturbing family dysfunction combines the classic components of carefully crafted 'whodunnit' with the fast paced action of a page-turning thriller. Its imperfect but intriguing characters will have you thinking about them well after you have finished the last page. British Book Awards Winner, Crime Thriller of the Year 2009. What's Hot - January 2013 [Big read}

This book lived up to the hype! Riveting from the start, it draws the reader in and keeps us guessing until the end. Fabulously put together - now we're left curious about Lisbeth's past. It leads us into the second book well.

Great crime story!! Everybody got "sucked" into it - even members who hardly read crime stories!!
It certainly caused plenty of discussion! Most admitted to a reluctance to read the rest of the book after starting the first few chapters, and then found they couldn't put it down. One member had to go and buy the other two volumes.

Only two members read this book, the rest of us found it a difficult read and chose not to continue with it. Both members were glad that they persevered with it although it was hard going trying to keep all the characters in order. One member resorted to listing them, and she said that it had meant that following the story was that much easier for her. They both said that they would like to read the other two volumes in the series.
Everybody really enjoyed the book. All thought it was very violent, but we were all hooked and intrigued. So much so, that we decided to read the second and third books over the school holidays and will discuss them in our January meeting.

One person was horrified and couldn't finish it. The rest of the group thought it was one of the best thought out and crafted novels they had read. The character development was excellent. A complex tale of good versus evil.
Everyone enjoyed this book. Some thought it a bit hard to get into.
