A great read. Very popular with its interesting characters and saga of 3 generations of women across South America's political history. Enjoyed by about 50% of the group because of the insights into more recent Uruguayan political upheavals. Very complicated relationships were depicted. Not an easy read but a rewarding one.

The author has the ability to produce good descriptive literature, but the whole group felt this did not live up to expectations.

A mixed reaction - most thought the second half was easier to read, and gave us an insight about Uruquay. As always, we appreciated the book more after discussion.

We really enjoyed this book. It was good to learn about a different country, culture and politics. Generated a good discussion about women's lives.

Not all enjoyed this book. Had trouble with the style of writing. We learnt something of the troubles of Uruquay and Argentina, but a lot of the story was implausible.

Not everyone read this book, but most who did enjoyed it. One lady had actually been there at that time (70s), so loved it (10/10)! It was a book that had to be read in blocks to get into it and figure everyone out - you couldn't just pick it up at lunchtime for a quick read. Hard to get into at start, but as is usually the way - well worth it! Thank you again!

Difficult book to get into. Impressed with style. Interesting historical parts, but hard to identify with any of the characters.
