Focusing on four such cases, the author, himself a victim of online abuse, examines the issue of mob justice and disproportionate judgements in an attempt to understand this online phenomenon.

Not everyone finished this book but after a lively discussion, those that didn't wished they had! Some found there were too many case histories which made it difficult to follow. This book generated the longest discussion of any this year and while we would not strongly recommend it, it was certainly an interesting and topical read when social media has such an impact on our lives.

An interesting book that makes you think about humanity and how we behave as a group online (this can be a bit depressing). Well documented with actual situations that help to shape your understanding. Lead to lots of interesting discussions.

We are a multigenerational book group, and this book promoted thought provoking discussion from all ages. Something different for groups that enjoy confronting ideas.

There were mixed feelings about this book. Some members were not able to finish it because they found it too harsh. Others found it interesting and thought provoking. Some very interesting research and good observations. It was a bit repetitive and one or two members felt it was too superficial for the importance and ramifications of what is a pertinent and dangerous issue.

We are an older group, all women. Most did not enjoy this book. Some skipped some parts or didn't finish. Nearly all felt we should be aware of what goes on in the area of internet shaming.

Some felt this was a compelling and very interesting warning of the possible consequences of making unguarded or controversial comments in social media. Others, who don't really use social media did not feel as alarmed.

Our group enjoyed this book. Most found it shocking, surprising and informative - those very familiar with Twitter were less surprised and shocked. We liked the journalistic style, although the single method for segueing from one chapter to the next got tedious.
