Gulliver's Travels

Swift, Jonathan

Satire on humans and human institutions; also a tale of travels to fantastical lands. [Small font]

It was an interesting experience returning to a classic most read as youngsters. It's not an easy read but worth persevering with. It provoked plenty of discussion and comparison to present day situations. It is amazing that the satire of 300 years ago is still relevant and readable today... Wellington 005

We were pleased to have read it - the notes were particularly good and helpful in reading this work. Wellington 031

We enjoyed Gulliver's Travels mostly - found much more in it than we expected. Pahiatua 001

It was interesting to go back into the very early days of the novel, and to compare structure, style etc. If Swift had been writing today, he would have had to change the structure somewhat, as we are sure no publisher would accept such a fragmented piece of writing now. But it is interesting to see that style and language have changed comparitively little in the intervening 250 years since the book was written. Wellington 001
