When biologist Inti Flynn arrives in the Scottish Highlands to lead a rewilding programme for grey wolves, she is accompanied by her twin sister Aggie, who needs her care and support.
The establishment of the Cairngorm Wolf Project incurs a hostile reception, even more so when a local farmer is found dead, and it is inevitable the wolves will be blamed. However, Inti is determined to champion both the wolves and her traumatised twin, whatever the cost.
Fascinating, fast-moving and morally complex, this literary eco-thriller also contains a mystery and a love story within its eloquent pages and rugged landscapes.
Members of our group were ambivalent about the violence in this book. We appreciated discussing the lyrical descriptions and environmental themes.
Interesting book, and we had a wonderful discussion about all aspects of the story of rewilding and introducing, in this case, wolves back into the whenua and justifying it by mentioning the real life example of wolves being reintroduced into Yellowstone Park. We decided it was a pageturner /a crime thriller novel. Some wouldnt recommend it but most enjoyed it and had got a lot out of the setting and the characters. We decided that Addie was real and were horrified at her treatment by her doctor husband. Iti was angry about men and we described her as passionate, and obsessed about the wolves.
All thought it was a very interesting book.
Some of our group found this book a little complicated. Lots going on in the story that got a bit confusing! The info about the wolves was really interesting however.
Almost all read and enjoyed this book. Whilst slightly fantastical in parts it had a lot of themes to follow - environmental action, abusive relationships, murder/mystery, love story - in such a small book. We liked the writing style. Interesting - great book.
Dark, but most people finished it and appreciated it.
Enjoyed by our group.
Interesting concept. Learnt a lot about wolves.
We all loved this book, well written with a great plot. We learnt a lot about wolves as well.
