Revolver
Sedgwick, MarcusConfronted by a stranger, Sig and his sister Anna are held ransom in their isolated cabin. Hidden away is their father's Colt revolver, offering them the possibility of deliverance. With its moral dilemmas played out in the desolate surroundings of the Arctic Circle and gold rush fever, this is a story of surprising tension and elegant writing; a short read of deceptive simplicity. Enjoyed by all. Good discussion on guns and use of firearms, our group clearly divided on that. Story cleverly laid out so little incidental details prove to be significant. Northland 002 Gripping, a fearful predicament for two teenagers. It has real threat! Wellington 018 Enjoyed by all, including some husbands. Highly original, descriptive and thought provoking. Very quick read for all - generated a lot of discussion. The group was split on how much they enjoyed the book - 6/8 very much and 2/8 disappointed. The ending was weak, and the ethical issues poorly dealt with - even (or especially) for intended readership of teenagers. But tensions and sense of place done very well.

Short ( only 180 pages), yet full of detail and very descriptive of guns and their power; the bleakness of life in the Arctic; corruption vs. honesty in assaying gold. The group enjoyed discussing this book.

Although this is a young adult book we all enjoyed it.

We liked 'Revolver', although we didn't find it very scary. The use of language was almost like a radio play and left a lot to the imagination.
