Cleverly narrated in a series of letters that Beatrice writes to her dead sister, this is a remarkable and compelling story of sibling connection, medical misadventure and a search for truth. Easy to read, hard to put down. A compelling read with a good twist. Auckland 255

A good read and well discussed. This was the first 'whodunnit' we've had and it succeeded by keeping us reading and capitavated right to the end. Palmerston North 006

A beautifully written book with enough twist to keep us guessing until the end. Excellent characterisation and character development. Pahia 003

General concensus was an excellent book with a very thought provoking story, varied and interesting characters. Very happy to recommend as an excellent crime, mystery novel. Hamilton 034

We all enjoyed this layered novel. Wide ranging discussion followed - genetic engineering, grief, families, mother-daughter relationships.

An in-depth description of 'sisterly' relationships. The retrospective writing style gave the book intrigue and suspense. Enjoyed!

A great read. All enjoyed this thriller from the beginning to the end. The repetitiveness of some parts was grating, but overall it was an easy read that created a lot of discussion. Some members have hunted down other books by this author and have found those books just as good.

Most of the group enjoyed this book and found it an easy read. A lot commented that it wasn't the type of book they would pick up normally but pleased to have read it. Ending was unexpected.

Most of the group enjoyed. Some felt it took a bit to get into. Others found the repetitiveness when story told through different eyes was annoying. Another reader had sought out other books by this author. A mixed review.

Many of us were engrossed and compelled by the story but really disappointed in the ending. We felt like it just fizzled.

The group really enjoyed 'Sister', and comments included 'an intriguing way of telling the story", and "it kept me guessing". We liked the journey that the author took us on with Bea, and how she gained insights into her mum, and came to better understand her - and we found the expressions of love very moving.

We began this book expecting a 'devastatingly good mystery novel'. Although we quite enjoyed the book, we felt there were too many storylines, and perhaps too many diverse characters. However the notes led to animated discussions of sibling rivalry, and the ethics of gene therapy. So we would suggest this book is an 'interesting' read, perhaps more for the subject matter than the quality of the writing.

Excellent book. Rated the best of the year for our group. However for some of us, the ending wasn't altogether clear but when explained, it became an even more amazing plot.

The questions did not really stimulate discussion. They were trying to give some depth to the book that we felt it didn't have. In summary, an 'airport read'.

Most of us enjoyed the book, although some found there was 'too much' going on to make it believable. An interesting twist at the end.

Classy as a piece of crime fiction. Some/most of the group were very touched by the sisters' relationship, and the development of Bea as the book progressed.
