Fear

Clark, Byron C

Aotearoa, land of the long white cloud, home of hobbits and sheep, bungee jumping and rail trails, and now, according to conspiracy researcher Byron Clark, home to a disturbing number of alt-right groups.

Focusing on before and after the 2019 Christchurch terror attacks and including the 2022 occupation of parliament, this book details an eye-opening investigation into the hate groups who threaten New Zealand's democracy and way of life.

An informative, well-researched wake-up call documenting the disturbing reality of domestic extremism.

The group found this book very well-written, alarming and enlightening, although only 6/9 read it to the end. Some were disappointed as it was more of a textbook than a novel. It led to a very good discussion about the Parliament sit-down/occupation, and the shock felt that it deteriorated into such violence in N.Z. Everyone praised the amount of research involved.

We had a very animated discussion about this. Half the group only read a few chapters. The rest of the group thought it was an important book. All of us agreed it was badly written and in need of an index.

Hard going but worthwhile - stuff we all need to understand better.
